Jill Kelly Koren was born and raised in Madison, Indiana. She is the daughter of Paul and Rosie Kelly, and the granddaughter of Dot and Tom Kelly of Kelly Brothers Ace Hardware fame. As a candidate for school board, Jill is excited to bring twenty-six years of experience in the field of education to work for the good of our students, our community, and our democracy.

Jill has taught every grade from kindergarten through college–except for fifth–and has experience and certifications in English as a Second Language for grades K-12 as well as Secondary English in the state of Indiana. She has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a master’s of fine arts in creative writing. Her partner in teaching and in life is Emeka Koren, who teaches chemistry at Madison Consolidated High School. Both of their children attended Madison Consolidated Schools for every year of their K-12 schooling.

Jill believes the role of a public servant is first and foremost to listen to the people she represents. Thus, she is eager to hear from everyone in the school district, from the soon-to-be pre-K students, current students, parents, alumni, teachers, staff, bus drivers, administrators, and anyone who cares about the quality of our education in Jefferson County.
